Email MichaelThe Pastor Search Committee is pleased to introduce to you, Michael Putnam as Senior Pastor of Providence Baptist Church. Pastor Michael's first Sunday will be January 8, 2012!
The Pastor Search Committee, over the past 6 months, has diligently and prayerfully worked to determine who God would reveal for our next Pastor. We received nearly 500 resumes to consider and through God’s leading narrowed our search to one individual, Michael Putnam.
Michael comes to us as a former staff Pastor at Second Baptist Church (North Campus) Houston, Texas. His responsibilities there included being the Children’s Pastor for babies-5th Grade (900+ Children). He supervised a staff of 10 that support 3 weekend services and the Wednesday Night program (AWANA). Through this ministry many children have been lead to Christ and Michael had the privilege of baptizing them. Michael was also in charge of VBS and Summer Camps. Michael’s other responsibilities included leading a weekly Men’s Group Study (100+ men), and pastoral care of visiting shut-ins and hospital visits. Michael also preached at the Wednesday Evening Adult Service and Saturday/Sunday Services.
In getting to know Michael, the Pastor, we found him to be genuine in his walk with Christ and faithful to his calling as a Pastor. He is doctrinally sound and holds a high regard for the truth and authority of God’s word. He is an expository preacher desiring God’s Spirit to speak to His people through thorough examination of His Word. Michael’s desire is to Love God and Love People. His main spiritual gifts are Preaching, Teaching and Evangelism. He very much wants to share his faith and lead the lost to saving faith in Jesus Christ. We also found Michael to be very mature in his approach as to where God would lead him to serve…meaning pastoring is not just a job or about the salary but rather a calling to serve.
In getting to know Michael, the person, and his lovely wife Whitney, we found them to be real people that love to talk, laugh and build relationships with those they meet. They both have the gift of hospitality and often invite people into their home for fellowship, bible study, and outreach.
It has been amazing how God has guided us to Michael Putnam and our desire is that you will see the same qualities and reasons why he is the one God has led to be our next Pastor.
After a full weekend of activities on the weekend of December 2-4th, and in a great demonstration of unity, the church unanimously voted (83 votes cast) for Michael Putnam to be our Senior Pastor. Michael and Whitney will be moving to Kansas City the week of January 2 and plan to arrive on January 4th.
Come and meet Michael and Whitney Putnam on January 8th and see what God is doing at Providence!

Jennifer has been the church secretary/office manager for almost 8 years (this time!). She has worked for past ministers and always filled in for a secretary when someone was on vacation. She has been a member of Providence since 1990. Jennifer has been on many different committees over the years, worked with the youth, plays in the handbell choir for specials and has seen technology make great advances. When she was first hired, there was a mimeograph machine in the office and an electric typewriter! Now she enjoys running the video screens during the Sunday morning worship services. Jennifer has been married to her husband, Tom, for 26 years and has 3 children.
